Résumé de la thèse

This research examines from selected feminist perspectives how international human rights law conceptualises violence against women and the related State responsibility (due diligence) to prevent and combat this phenomenon. Ideally, this analysis will open new avenues for identifying the reasons behind normative gaps in the protection of women from violence and for enhancing the application of existing human rights norms countering violence against women. It asks what the significance is of the existing normative gaps, in particular the lack of a universally binding international instrument specifically on violence against women.
