The Conference will present the output of an interdisciplinary research project on Interrogation and Torture, which will culminate in an edited book published by Oxford University Press in 2019. (See attached Program and Book Proposal for more details). The conference as such will include an introductory speech by the representatives of the hosting institutions, a presentation of the background of the issue, including testimonies from persons who have been victims of torture, a presentation of the main outcomes of the book by the editors; a keynote speech by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, Nils Melzer, as well as a panel discussion on the way forward and rapport-based interrogation as a potential solution.
