Description

Program

The activity proposed consists of a 3-hours workshop for doctoral students on "Daring to write an interdisciplinary thesis: the added value and challenges of integrating law with other disciplines".

The doctoral workshop will include short presentations on inter-disciplinarity aiming at answering the following questions:

• What is inter-disciplinarity?

• How to develop a successful interdisciplinary project?

• How to foster productive dialogue among disciplines?

• How to encourage academics and practitioners to work together? The presentations will be followed by a "questions and answers" session.

The most important part of the workshop will be dedicated to group work under the supervision of experienced trainers and the following questions will be discussed:

• What is the added value of inter-disciplinarity?

• What are possible challenges in developing an interdisciplinary project or in including an interdisciplinary dimension into a doctoral thesis?

• What are the challenges you face (or envisage) in your own doctoral work?

The group work will be followed by a wrap up session and the conclusion will include key recommendations and take-home messages. Doctoral students are encouraged to send a one-pager to the organizers (Gloria.Gaggioli(at)unige(dot)chSteven.Barela(at)unige(dot)ch) presenting their research project and discussing the added value and challenges of interdisciplinarity for their research".

This activity will be followed by an International Conference on "Interrogation and Torture: Integrating Efficacy with Law and Morality" as an example of a successful integration of law with other disciplines (such as neuro-sciences, psychology, and philosophy) (4.15 – 8pm on 10 December, MR290). These two events are related but distinct.
