Appel à communications - Journée thématique en droit international : Séminaire

Le 21 novembre 2024 en avant-midi aura lieu un séminaire destiné aux doctorants et jeunes chercheurs. À la suite du séminaire, un colloque public sur le droit des traités aura lieu dans l'après-midi à l'Institut de hautes études internationales et du développement de Genève. Le colloque réunira professeurs, diplomates, dépositaires, hauts fonctionnaires internationaux et autres spécialistes du droit international versés dans le droit des traités internationaux.

En amont du colloque, il se tiendra un séminaire pendant l'avant-midi à l'attention de doctorants et de jeunes chercheurs souhaitant présenter leurs recherches tout en bénéficiant des commentaires et de l'expertise des intervenants au colloque de l'après-midi. Les participants au séminaire seront ensuite invités à se rendre au colloque dans l'après-midi.

Les personnes intéressées doivent faire parvenir une proposition de 300 mots maximum à andre-philippe.ouellet(at)graduateinstitute(dot)ch d'ici le 13 octobre 2024 (23:59 heure de Suisse - CEST). Les propositions n'ont pas besoin d'être en lien avec la notion de téléologie et peuvent s'inscrire plus largement dans le champ du droit des traités (p. ex., en lien avec l'interprétation, les réserves, la succession, etc.). Prière d'inclure avec votre proposition : votre nom, votre affiliation institutionnelle, votre adresse courriel ainsi qu'un curriculum vitae.

La journée thématique sera bilingue, les participants au séminaire peuvent donc soumettre leur proposition puis présenter tant en anglais qu'en français, les deux langues de travail de l'IHEID.

Les jeunes chercheurs sélectionnés en seront informés avant le 15 octobre et devront faire parvenir une ébauche écrite (paper ou plan détaillé, de 10 à 20 pages maximum) au plus tard le 11 novembre 2024.

Il est à noter que l'organisation de la journée thématique n'est pas en mesure de fournir de soutien financier aux participantes et participants. Des boissons, un repas en compagnie des intervenants au colloque et un cocktail seront toutefois offerts. L'organisation via le Global Governance Centre est disposée à produire des lettres de soutien si elles s'avéraient utiles dans la recherche de financement des participantes et participants.

La journée thématique est organisée sous l'égide du Global Governance Centre de l'IHEID et a lieu grâce au généreux soutien du Fonds national suisse de la recherche scientifique, de la Conférence universitaire de Suisse occidentale et du département de droit international de l'IHEID. Il n'y a pour l'heure pas de projet en lien avec une publication ultérieure, mais diverses pistes pourront être explorées si les participants au séminaire le souhaitent.

Call for contributions-International Law Theme Day: Seminar

On the morning of 21 November 2024, a seminar on treaty law for PhD candidates and young researchers will take place. The seminar will be followed in the afternoon by a public colloquium on the law of treaties at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. The colloquium will bring together professors, diplomats, treaty depositaries, senior international civil servants and other international law specialists versed in the law of international treaties.

On the morning of 21 November, ahead of the colloquium, a seminar will take place for PhD candidates and junior researchers interested in presenting their research within the field of the law of treaties while benefiting from the comments and expertise of the afternoon speakers. Seminar participants will then be able to attend the afternoon colloquium.

To apply, please send an abstract of no more than 300 words to andre-philippe.ouellet(at)graduateinstitute(dot)ch by 13 October 2024 (23:59 Swiss time-CEST). Proposals do not have to relate to teleology and can be on any aspect or subfield of the law of treaties (interpretation, reservations, succession, etc.) The following information should be included with your abstract: your name, affiliation, email address, and curriculum vitae.

The seminar and colloquium will be bilingual; candidates can submit their proposal in English or French and speak either language, which are the Graduate Institute's working languages.

Selected researchers will be notified by 15 October and will need to submit a paper or detailed plan of 10 to 20 pages maximum by 11 November.

It should be noted that no financial support is available to support participants, although beverages, a meal with the colloquium's speakers, and a cocktail will be offered. Through the GGC, the organizer can provide support letters should they prove useful for participants.

The theme day is organized under the auspices of the Geneva Graduate Institute's Global Governance Centre with generous support from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), the Conférence universitaire de Suisse occidentale, and the Geneva Graduate Institute's International Law Department. There are currently no plans for a subsequent collective publication, but various avenues may be explored if seminar participants so wish.
